Kaley and Joshua Engagement Session

Wow-You can’t get much better weather wise in a Winnipeg February than +5C!! Yes-Balmy temp’s perfect for a winter outdoor engagement session for Kaley and Joshua at the Forks! A crazy busy day there-I wouldn’t expect anything different considering it was a Saturday and the weather was so nice! I did note however that even amid all the activity and people at the Forks, it was so obvious this couple only had eyes for each other! We spent the first part of the session inside at the Terminals and then the couple laced up their skates for an outdoor skate on the river! We also had a fun opportunity to check out a couple of the unique warming huts the Forks put up this winter along the skating path. Paolo and I so enjoyed the session and are looking forward to photographing the couple in their upcoming wedding at the end of August! Congrats Kaley and Joshua!

Red River College Campus Wedding #3

Red River College Campus Wedding #3. The third wedding set-up in a series of 5, I photographed for them this past summer.  I have to say I LOVE the building character of the Princess Campus. Its architecture “old meets new” and the colours are eye catching! I just had to have a little fun editing the first image above in an edgy technique to capture some of the unique historical textures and bright modern colours found in its front entrance alone!

This wedding was unique from the others I had photographed in that I was able to capture the wedding ceremony set-up as well.  The Campus offer their facilities to weddings ceremonies as well as conferences in such a set-up. It never ceases to amaze me how each wedding reception set-up is unique-with this particular wedding, guests arrived at the Elgin entrance to be greeted by Champagne on ice and glasses surrounded by rose petals! Very nice touch! If you are interested in finding out more about the rentals click on the link, Red River Campus Rentals.

Introducing KEEPhoto

Exciting NEWS! Katherina from A Pawsitive Image and myself from Ebonie Klassen Photography will be joining our time, talents, and skills to bring Extraordinary Pet Photography to our clients throughout various times of the year! Let’s face it, a great pet photo is a combination of a number of elements all coming together at once by at least a couple of people. Katherina and I find ourselves working as a great team on this, one handling the pet, getting them to do what we want for the image, while the other is behind the camera anticipating the pets response and clicking the shutter at just at the right time.  We’ll have lots of exciting news about Pet Portrait Days – Special Location Event Days – Show Dog Photography Packages and more coming soon. This years goal-we want to take animal photography to new heights and create spectacular work that no one else is attempting.  Don’t worry – we’re still available for our individual work, too!

Please enjoy some images of Kitty the Shih Tzu in show coat we photographed and the end of last year.

Way of Broadway 2011

The Manitoba Children’s Museum’s “Way off Broadway” dance event was a lot of fun to photograph again this year at the Pantages Theater! The late November, Way off Broadway event, is a fundraiser for the Children’s Museum. Teams of co-workers, social groups and  dance groups come together to raise funds for the Museum through pledges. These groups receive some professional dance guidance and get together for the event to perform and be judged by local Celebrities. The groups are evaluated in a number of categories such as Best Costume and Audience  Choice. This years contributions raised over $16,000 for the Children’s Museum! I’m always amazed how this city come together to make events like this happen.  Jeremy John and Drew Kobub of City T.V. did and amazing job of hosting the event and  Bubba B (Hot 103 FM), Tracy Koga(Shaw T.V.) and Heather Steele (Global Television) performed the hard task of judging the talented groups. If you’d like to find out more about the event and how you or a group of your co-workers or friends can participate or if you’d like to check out all the images from the event,  just click on this link Way off Broadway . Have to say this years highlights for me were the Lady Gaga group-great costumes, and I loved the flash mob dance concept from the Sobey’s group! Special thanks to Paolo Porquez for his lighting help in the morning and to Tara Craigon who helped photograph the performance in the afternoon.

Branson, MO, U.S.A.

Above: Image Captured from an Overlook of the beautiful fall leaves in the Ozark Mountains with the Table Rock Dam in the background.

January is a great “Catch up”, “Clean-up” kind of month! After the past crazy business of the last 3 months, It has been very good to relax for a few weeks, catch up on filing, updating the Website, and blogging a little of what went on in the past couple of months.

Some of my clients and friends know a little about my 9 day absence from the photography business at the beginning of November. I ventured out on my new part time job as a tour director for Fehr-Way tours in Winnipeg. I’ve been asked a lot about it, but have had little time to talk about some of the highlights of the trip from Winnipeg, MB, Canada to Branson, MO, U.S.A..  My husband and I spent the trip traveling by Coach with 51 other passengers. It was 9 days of leading the group on shopping excursions, concerts, seeing attractions, taking in the scenic views of the Ozark Mountains and yes… even new eating experiences.

Highlight’s of the trip for me included:

1. Meeting Mary at Kithcart Orchards. We just couldn’t help but be won over by  this family business with its home grown produce, their barbwire collection, pecan options and wonderful southern hospitality (Including the drawl).

2. Lambert’s Cafe-(The only home of the throwed rolls.) Yes- and as the name does indicate they do throw home baked rolls across the Cafe at you. (Yes, many had missed) Appetizers are served on a paper towel on the table. I tried some deep fried Okra. (I vegetable I believe-Can’t say I’m a fan.) Note to self – bring Tums along on the next trip down South with all the fried foods!

3. Chinese acrobat show. (Sorry no picture’s allowed)- Amazing juggling!!! Got me thinking about going home and tossing coffee tables around with my legs and catching them with my feet-(NOT!:))

4.Precious Moments Chapel- I remember friends collecting the cute figurines but who knew there were beautiful parks, grounds and an amazing chapel featuring all of this!!! Mind blowing, jaw dropping paintings in the Chapel. And if the art didn’t impress you, the story behind them will melt your heart!

5. Experiencing a Branson traffic jam. How can a town of 11,000  (including the surrounding population) have such crazy traffic jams!!! I think I counted 24 Coaches at one concert. At McFarlains restaurant they actually had a pie called the Traffic Jam. Best thing-the dessert(The pie)was served first before the dinner came out!

6. Silver Dollar City- Visited the Cave. Only 600 stairs. I found out I can still walk 600 stairs in under an hour. This is good.

7. Terry Redlin Art Centre, S.D.- Amazing painter-didn’t know about him before hand-AMAZING Paintings all 3 floors!!!!

I could  go on for  a while but I’ll let the rest of the pictures tell some of the story! Henry and I are thinking of  heading back there in the fall season! I would highly recommend a trip out there at  the beginning of November. That time allows you get the best of both words-you still get to experience the breathtaking beautiful fall colours of the Ozarks,  as well as having a wonderful  introduction to the holiday seasons by taking in the various concerts and visiting Silver Dollar City. Please enjoy some of the quick snapshots I was able to capture on the trip.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I really can’t believe how quickly this year has flown by ! I love going into a New Year-such a wonderful time for reflection on the past year and a time to create and work on new goals for the up and coming year. I feel so blessed that so much of what I photographed this past year involved friends and family and I’m thankful for all the new clients that I was able to meet. A huge amount of gratitude goes out to the associate photographers who assisted in photographing weddings, events, families and commercial sessions this past year!

I could not go into the New Year without sharing some images of my friend Lisa’s family. It was my last family session before Christmas. Lisa, along with being a good friend, is also one of my longest standing clients. I’ve been photographing the family and the girls over the past few years. I have always enjoyed the sessions together and this year was no different. The girl’s gorgeous white ruffle dresses, and their willingness to be photographed worked together to create some magical images from this year’s session! We met up at the Red River Campus on Princess for the session. Playing with light and locations we had a fun filled hour! I’ve just loved watching these girls grow up to the beautiful young ladies they are! Enjoy a slide show of just a few of the images from the session!

Wishing 2012 holds happy memories for you, much health, happiness, and new opportunities and experiences! Happy New Year!

Red River Campus Wedding #2

Okay-just saying- I thought it was difficult dealing with rumblings in my  tummy initiated by inhaling mouthwatering aromas while photographing the delectable dishes during this session, but I’m finding it equally difficult to calm those same rumblings as I’m viewing the images to be posted to this blog! ( Note to self- In the future, post food blogs on a full stomach!LOL!)

As promised, a couple of months back, I’m continuing to show some of the images I’ve photographed of wedding receptions at the Red River Campus on Princess. The images were captured to feature The Campus’s great wedding rental facility.  Not only does the Campus offer amazing rental facilities-they provide a wonderful catering service as well! Usually I’m in and out of the Reception room, to photograph before the guests arrive, but for this one I stayed till the food came out to the buffet table to catch on camera, some of the beautifully displayed dishes and desserts offered. ( I was also very impressed and swayed to photograph the colourful candy buffet put together by the Wedding Party on this one! ) Checkout some of the yummy, colourful images! (and yes-I’m off to the kitchen to go satisfy the tummy rumblings!)

The Forks and Family

I so looked forward to this morning session with Denise and her family at the Forks-My first impression was that I couldn’t believe how much the children had grown! I met Denise a couple of years back when she wanted portraits done of her baby daughter. Her baby girl was just sitting back then and now she was walking, running and talking-WOW- where does time go!  It’s been a couple of months now since the session (Still catching up on blogs from this past fall) and I didn’t want to miss showing some of my favorite images from the session.  It was a coolish, beautifully bright, late Fall morning when we met up at the River Walk. We spent a full hour walking and along the walk, checking out the river and the ducks and playing with the colourful leaves! Thanks Denise for sharing your family with me and my camera and to the family for a very enjoyable session time that morning!

Steven and Viveca Married!

Finally! I have been trying to find time in a busy pre- Christmas shooting/editing schedule to blog about this couple’s amazing wedding! Steven and Viveca were married in October. Some of you may recall their Sneak Peek from last month. I loved this wedding because both the bride and the groom had distinctly different tastes in wedding photography. Prior to the wedding day, I asked the couple to pick images of wedding photography that they liked and tell me what they liked about the image. I found out that Steven loved to play with depth of field and Viveca loved more of a contemporary feel to her images with a slight romantic flare. With each image I shot on the day of the wedding and each image I edited afterwards I found myself saying, this one’s for Steven, this one’s for Viveca. I so enjoyed shooting from different points of view with my camera and using a variety of editing techniques!!!

I was fortunate to work with the awesome photography team of Jonah O’Neil and Paolo Porquez during the wedding day. You can check out a few of Jonah’s amazing arial shots of the Ceremony from the catwalk at the N.K.M.B. Church and some of Paolo’s images from Bird’s Hill Park and the reception at the Aviation Museum in the slideshow below. Special thanks to the wedding party and the couple for making the day a lot of fun! Congratulations Viveca and Steven, it was an honor to spend your Special Day with you!

Fall Fun

And the Fall Fun just continues! Snow has just blanketed Winnipeg and I’m still working on finishing up Family Session files from October. We had such a beautiful fall with warm weather and amazing fall colours! What a backdrop to work with photographing families outdoors especially in the Parks!

I so enjoyed this Family session with Krista and her family at Birds Hill Park! I had a really hard time just selecting a few images to show!  Krista and I share a love for antiques and using them in eclectic ways. I was thrilled when she brought fun props like an antique frame, balloons, and fancy sucker’s! I threw in my black antique wood chair and had a little fun with the editing selection into the mix and “Voila” we had a unique look to the family’s images!  Thanks to the family for being such great sports and making the session so much fun! Enjoy!
