Women’s Headshots

2EDFB4x61798elkJenniferF-5 Everyone deserves to have a great headshot/ portrait of themselves! If it’s time to update your current profile pic on a social media site or a business site, consider contacting me this coming year! One of the favourite parts of my job is capturing professional portraits. I’ve had the opportunity to meet and photograph numerous amazing women in many different professions over the past year. They were all looking for a professional portrait  for various reasons. Jennifer (image above) recently took on a new opportunity working in the Winnipeg film industry.  She needed a portrait for her Linked In profile and for other applications as well.

4x6ED1746Andyelk-25I met Andy Dunlop through a friend. She is a very talented/fun Epicure Consultant, her updated images look great on her Website-check it out by clicking here!

4x6ED1746Andyelk-3Below is Melinda Friesen, an author of a popular new book “Enslavement”. Check out her blog/site here.  She required a portrait to go on the book’s jacket cover. She is currently working on more books and I’m looking forward to reading those!

She needed a portrait to be featured on the Quaker Oats Centre of Excellence portion of their Website.

Last Chance to View the Adventures of Mr. Potato Head!

1714-14MCMPotatoHead-32

If you haven’t gone to see the great interactive display “The Adventures of Mr. Potato Head” at the Manitoba Children’s Museum you only have a couple of more weeks to go! I loved Mr. Potato Head as a child and was so excited when I was asked to photograph the new exhibit. Not the easiest of assignments as I seriously caught myself being tempted to put down the camera and pick up a plastic  mouth/ear/arm/leg…. and  play build a Potato Head! 🙂 I loved the bright colours of the exhibit and the fun interactive stations!! For more Exhibit details for dates and times click here- The Adventures of Mr. Potato Head. Here are just a few of the images I captured during the Exhibit Opening.  To view more of the images click here.

I would highly recommend it! It’s a must see for both the young and the young at heart!

Back to School!

web1631-12EKPCarpenterselk0029Oh it’s that time again… Summer is drawing to an end and the Fall routine will begin very soon. Yes -time to think about back to school!

I’m sure the children returning to The Carpenter’s Montessori School can hardly wait to get back into their classrooms and back to the friendly, amazing teachers that work there! The School follows the Montessori philosophy -as their website states: “allowing the children to have a spontaneous desire to learn and the ability to pace their own development.” The school is run under the direction of Desiee Mayert whom I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know over the last few years while photographing the students for their school year portraits.  I had the opportunity this past year to capture the wonderful new facility the School now operates out of in the South end of the city.  What struck me at first viewing of the school was the amazing amount of natural light pouring into the building and the large class room spaces! If you’re in Winnipeg, looking for a great school for your toddler or preschooler check out their Website at: The Carpenter’s Montessori and give the office a call!

Backdrop meet Horse…

web1615-12Keriekpcard3-8

Congratulations Keri!! Keri opened her new vet clinic, Hudson Reykdal Veterinary Services just before the New Year and it offers Manitoba its first Full Service Mobile Vet Clinic! She has been working hard in the last half year planning her new clinic and designing the Mobile Vet Clinic. I met Keri through friend and associate Kat Dueck (AKA -the pet whisperer)- Keri was looking for images of her pets to be used as graphics on the outside of her mobile van, on her Website and on display in her clinic. So one day in late summer Kat and I headed up to her farm and set-up a full studio-including lights and backdrops in her barn/garage. We spent a good 8 hours capturing pictures of her cats, dogs and yes, even her horses!  The horses spent the day watching in their stalls behind me as I photographed the “production”  until it was their time in the studio lights. I was actually really impressed with how well they did in front of the camera and lights-They sure were paying attention throughout the day! I thought I’d share just a handful of the images captured.  Thanks go out to the very well trained “Models” and of course associate Kat who rallied and got the attention of the “models” while I snapped away!

Please feel free to check out Keri’s website. Your love for animals and your pets is just so evident, Keri, and I’m sure that will translate to much success in your business! Congrats again!

I’d also like to share a little recent clip of Keri and her mobile clinic in action. Keep up the great work Keri!

Christmas with Steve Bell in September.

web1619-12ekpSteveBell-65

Merry Christmas everyone and best wishes for the coming New Year! I can’t believe how this fall flew by and another year is drawing to an end. I am truly grateful for a year full of wonderful photographic opportunities and for all the amazing individuals I was able to meet and photograph.  Included on this list and a definite highlight was meeting Juno award winner, Mr. Steve Bell and his team for a portrait session of  him in September.

The session portraits were intended for use on promotional materials such as posters for his Christmas tour and the inside of Steve’s new Christmas album. It was a pleasure to work with the creative team to create images of Steve that would compliment a pre-selected album cover based on an original photo by Marco Hiebert.  The session was a really enjoyable couple of hours with much laughter and an amazing atmosphere of creative idea sharing. Special thanks to Cullen Klassen for his technical assistance with the session.

Congratulations to Steve on putting together a beautiful sounding Album for the season and on a full month of sharing his wonderful gift with audiences in concerts across Canada this past month! Please check out Steve’s Website at  Steve Bell if you’re still interested in how to purchase his Christmas Album and information on Steve and his work.

Looking forward to sharing more images of the individuals and projects I’ve worked on this past fall in the coming New Year. Stay tuned!:)

The Pawsh Dog on Taylor

Okay-the secret is out- This place REALLY makes me want to get a dog- just so I can take it to doggy daycare, obedience classes, have my dog groomed and go shopping for Canine delectable looking cookies, cute t-shirts with awesome sayings, designer doggy fragrances, shampoos and colourful collars. The Pawsh Dog on Taylor has all -this and much more! As part of the more, KEEPhoto (a collaboration of a Pawsitive Image and Ebonie Klassen Photography) enjoyed a Spring session offering pet photography at this location. Over the weekend of our pet sessions in Spring and yet again for this photosession, I saw how the dogs played together enjoying each other’s company and how the staff made it fun for them to be there with everything from blowing bubbles, throwing balls and letting them enjoy an amazing play slide!  The Pawsh Dog located at  Unit 8-1580 Taylor is the second of two locations in the city, this one opening this past year. For information on services offered and hours you may reach them at  (204) 261-9059. Check it out!

Along with winning a great prize package from the Museum, he was featured in this past Saturday’s edition of the Winnipeg Free Press. I think this may have been one of my “Happiest” Star of the Month sessions yet!  Every time I looked into the lens I found myself breaking into a huge grin, how could I not when Derek’s smile is so “infectious”!!! That’s why I love doing the Star of the Month Session’s for the Museum, seeing the light in the Children’s eyes and the joy in their steps as they explore the Museum-well… it’s just magical!! Expressions Film Studio Take 2!

As promised  on last weeks blog, Expressions Film Studio Take 1, here are the rest of the wonderful actors I had the good fortune to meet and photograph this past February. We had a blast in the Studio and within a matter of seconds of snapping a couple of images, I could tell they were very comfortable in front of the camera and VERY talented-some already finding employment in the film industry!

Expressions Film Studio, under the direction of the talented Reena Shah, provides children with professional acting instruction where in they can develop skills of confidence, empowerment and public speaking.  I was able to take in a portion of one of their acting classes and observed not only skill development, but how friendships had been developed as well!

Reena is already making plans for the fall session and space is limited! If you are interested in more information or enrolling your child, feel free to give her a call at (204) 223-1596! Enjoy some of the images they chose !

Expressions Film Studio -Take 1!

February was such an awesome month!! Having the young talented actors from Expressions Film Studio in the studio for portraits made a week of my photographic time a sheer delight!  I spent about an hour with each actor, realizing quite quickly, that their confidence and acting abilities were going to to work some magic in creating strong portrait images for them to submit for auditions.

Red River College Campus Wedding #3

Red River College Campus Wedding #3. The third wedding set-up in a series of 5, I photographed for them this past summer.  I have to say I LOVE the building character of the Princess Campus. Its architecture “old meets new” and the colours are eye catching! I just had to have a little fun editing the first image above in an edgy technique to capture some of the unique historical textures and bright modern colours found in its front entrance alone!

This wedding was unique from the others I had photographed in that I was able to capture the wedding ceremony set-up as well.  The Campus offer their facilities to weddings ceremonies as well as conferences in such a set-up. It never ceases to amaze me how each wedding reception set-up is unique-with this particular wedding, guests arrived at the Elgin entrance to be greeted by Champagne on ice and glasses surrounded by rose petals! Very nice touch! If you are interested in finding out more about the rentals click on the link, Red River Campus Rentals.

Way of Broadway 2011

The Manitoba Children’s Museum’s “Way off Broadway” dance event was a lot of fun to photograph again this year at the Pantages Theater! The late November, Way off Broadway event, is a fundraiser for the Children’s Museum. Teams of co-workers, social groups and  dance groups come together to raise funds for the Museum through pledges. These groups receive some professional dance guidance and get together for the event to perform and be judged by local Celebrities. The groups are evaluated in a number of categories such as Best Costume and Audience  Choice. This years contributions raised over $16,000 for the Children’s Museum! I’m always amazed how this city come together to make events like this happen.  Jeremy John and Drew Kobub of City T.V. did and amazing job of hosting the event and  Bubba B (Hot 103 FM), Tracy Koga(Shaw T.V.) and Heather Steele (Global Television) performed the hard task of judging the talented groups. If you’d like to find out more about the event and how you or a group of your co-workers or friends can participate or if you’d like to check out all the images from the event,  just click on this link Way off Broadway . Have to say this years highlights for me were the Lady Gaga group-great costumes, and I loved the flash mob dance concept from the Sobey’s group! Special thanks to Paolo Porquez for his lighting help in the morning and to Tara Craigon who helped photograph the performance in the afternoon.

Above left to right: Drew Kozub (City T.V.), Jeremy John (City T.V.), Heather Steele (Global Television), Bubba B. (Hot 103FM), Tracy Koga(Shaw.TV) a quick pic  at the end of the event.

Red River Campus Wedding #2

Okay-just saying- I thought it was difficult dealing with rumblings in my  tummy initiated by inhaling mouthwatering aromas while photographing the delectable dishes during this session, but I’m finding it equally difficult to calm those same rumblings as I’m viewing the images to be posted to this blog! ( Note to self- In the future, post food blogs on a full stomach!LOL!)

As promised, a couple of months back, I’m continuing to show some of the images I’ve photographed of wedding receptions at the Red River Campus on Princess. The images were captured to feature The Campus’s great wedding rental facility.  Not only does the Campus offer amazing rental facilities-they provide a wonderful catering service as well! Usually I’m in and out of the Reception room, to photograph before the guests arrive, but for this one I stayed till the food came out to the buffet table to catch on camera, some of the beautifully displayed dishes and desserts offered. ( I was also very impressed and swayed to photograph the colourful candy buffet put together by the Wedding Party on this one! ) Checkout some of the yummy, colourful images! (and yes-I’m off to the kitchen to go satisfy the tummy rumblings!)

Great Friend to Kids Awards

I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph the Great Friend to Kids Awards hosted by the Manitoba Children’s Museum this past Wednesday Sept. 28th. This year’s event proved to be just as incredibly inspiring as last years. And how could it not- as the event honors individuals and organizations who are active in contributing to enriching the lives of Children, such a worthy recognition! This years recipients included included Wanda Koop (Artist and Founder of Art City), Abdikheir Ahmed for his work with Immigrant and Refugee Community Organizations of Manitoba, West Broadway Youth Outreach, and Carly Welham. I must also mention a highlight for me is always the performers of the event!  If you would like more information about the event just click on the name Great Friends to Kids Awards.  To view additional images captured that morning feel free to click on the Manitoba Children’s Museum photo gallery link.

Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods and Oil

ABOVE: Celebrity Dietician and Author, Ashley Koff, RD and Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods and Oil CEO, Mike Fata.

In August, I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing the CEO of Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods and Oil, Mike Fata, and celebrity dietician and author, Ashley Koff, RD, at the company’s Winnipeg manufacturing plant. Ashley was in for a visit to the business from California. I was so impressed by the team, the plant itself, and the product- right down to it’s innovative packaging that works to create a heart when two packages are placed together! I think both Ashley and I learned a lot about Hemp seeds that afternoon!
“Founded in 1998, Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods & Oils is the largest vertically integrated hemp food manufacturer in the world. The company strives to manufacture and market the highest quality hemp food products, educate on the nutritional and environmental benefits of hemp, and to support sustainability in all that they do. Manitoba Harvest works with world class health practitioners like celebrity dietician and author, Ashley Koff, RD to introduce people to their leading line up of Hemp Hearts shelled hemp seeds, hemp oil, hemp butter, protein powders, and Hemp Bliss Organic Hemp Beverage.”(Kelly Saunderson, Marketing Manager). Evolution Dance Company

Evolution Dance studio owners Andrea and Sonja (above.)

I had the amazing opportunity to meet and photograph the dance instructors of Evolution Dance Company in June. They were looking to have portraits done for their Studio wall as well as their Website. The studio teaches approx. 450 students a week at their wonderful facility in Selkirk, Manitoba.  They have an amazing faculty of 13 instructors who are not only excellent dancers, but genuinely care about each and every one of their students. If you are interested in learning how to dance, their registration begins August 11th and continues every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 – 8:30pm until classes begin.  They offer a variety of classes for ages 3 – adult in Hip Hop, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Creative Movement and Pre-Dance. Their classes include a fun recreational program and a more challenging competitive program as well. I’m always following the accomplishments of this talented group- this past year alone, their teams did very well, winning numerous awards at Canadian and US dance competitions.  Most recently the studio received 3 High Score Awards, and 4 Overalls at the Canadian National Dance Championships!  This year they were also honoured to win an award at the JUMP Convention & Competition in Minneapolis for having the highest combined group scores. Each year their fabulous recital at the Centennial Concert Hall is sure to impress (sold out this past year!) If you are interested in learning more,  information can be found on their website at www.evolutiondance.ca

Magazine Cover First!

AHHHHHHHH!!!!! My son and I were doing an early morning stroll thru Polo Park Shopping Centre this morning and we just happen to go by the Customer Service near the centre of the Mall. A flash of colour and a brief instant of recognition caught this photographer’s eye! It was out!!! With a screech I picked up a magazine from it’s stand and my son instantly asked- “What is it mom?”.  I wasn’t expecting it this soon. I had only shot the cover 2 weeks ago and completed final photoshop edits to it! ” It’s my first Magazine cover as a Photographer!” I said.

I have been photographing with the Manitoba Children’s Museum for the last 2 years and have a had a busy last couple of month’s photographing their Grand Opening events for their newly completed renovations. It was super to open it up to the article about the new Galleries at the Museum inside and see a number of images in actual print! So many times as photographer’s we do work for clients but never get to see the final end result and what or how the images are used by clients, graphic artists or magazine editors. Very Cool! This particular magazine features information on Winnipeg attractions, entertainment and dining and can be picked-up at venues across the city. By the way if you haven’t checked out the New Children’s Museum put it on your to do list this summer-It’s amazing! You HAVE to go!

“Sweet” Session!

About a month back a group of my friends got together for our monthly dinner party. We all usually offer to bring a dish according to a designated evening theme. To elaborate a little further these are friends I’ve know since High School, and without dating myself too much, lets just say its been a very long time. That’s why it was so funny that on this particular evening “the friends” were all “blown away” when our friend Jeanette, came in the door with her offering of a cake. Not just any CAKE- she shows up carrying this amazing creation-hand sculpted by herself. The cake looked wayyyy to beautiful to even bring a knife close to it. Okay -we got past that pretty quickly, and found the inside was even more “delish” than it’s outward appearance! You think you would know a lot about someone you have known for so many years-apparently we knew little that this high school buddy had such an amazing culinary talent!!!  Jeanette has taken this found passion and allowed herself to enjoy it even more by starting up a small business. So the story doesn’t end there- She invited me, last week,  to come over and take a picture of a wedding cake she had made and was delivering that afternoon. I was floored!!!! 25 lbs of beautiful, chocolate, flowery, fondant encrusted, “sweetness”! If you need an amazing cake for an upcoming special occasion -Birthday, anniversary, wedding, etc. -I know the High School Buddy-The name is Jeanette-her business phone#(204)-488-7735!

Helga Berger, Assistant Superintendent

Happy Retirement Helga! Helga, has served as the Assistant Superintendent for the Seine River School Division for a number of years. She approached me when she realized she needed a headshot for a publication announcing her retirement. I was so glad she did! We had a wonderful time together, and I soon realized as we got to know one another, that Helga was a self admitted “Black and White” person. She loves wearing black and white, has black and white glasses and so for the first time EVER on my blog I am posting her portraits in her honor -in Black and White!!! She may be retiring from one job but I have a feeling this lady may have her sights to the future that includes some type of consultation. So not only did we capture a shot for her retirement but we also got a few for possible business cards in the future! Congratulations again Helga, and wishing you all the best in your future!

Spalifestyle & Fashion Boutique

About a month back I had the pleasure of working with owner’s, Monica and Kristin Janzen, of Spalifestyle & Fashion Boutique. They were interested in capturing some new images for their website, promoting the services they offer in their Spa as well as in the Boutique. We spent a wonderful morning together along with their friendly staff and a amazingly photogenic client, photographing the Spa/Boutique interior and services. I was able to come back at various times of the day during the following week to capture images of the exterior as well.

The Business is located at 2001 Henderson Hwy. I was no stranger to the business. On occasion, when I met my girlfriends for coffee at Mountain Bean, we would always be lured into their Boutique by the beautiful, colorful window displays! They feature so many designer brands and best of all they have such amazing staff that excel in exceptional customer service! Definitely a retail destination must visit! Check out their website, featuring a few more images, by clicking on their above name link. Special thanks to Cory Aronec for his assistance with the morning session!

Simply Chic Interiors featuring Lisa

Lisa Kasdorf of Simply Chic Interiors

So sorry to my blog follower’s it has been a couple of weeks since my last blog. I’ve had many adventure in the last couple of weeks photographing everything from families, children, businesses, an event, kitchen interiors and art work. I promise I’ll get my blogging back up to speed and start sending out a few more blogs in the next couple of weeks and share with you some of the projects I’ve been at work on.  Todays blog was a website photo shoot for Simply Chic Interiors. Owner Lisa Kasdorf is working on creating a new website for her business and asked if I do some head shots for her site as well as for her Facebook business page as well.

Lisa is a 1990 graduate from the University of Manitoba with a B.Ed.degree, and has 19 years of teaching experience. She successfully completed the Home Decorating course at Red River Community College in 2003, becoming a certified home decorator, and a fully accredited member of the Canadian Decorator’s Association (CDECA).  With 8 years of interior decorating experience, she brings to her business a wealth of decor knowledge!

Lisa provides consultations for residential interior decorating, specializing in colour consultations. She will analyze your design needs and formulate design concepts that are both aesthetic and functional.  She works with the client to develop a custom plan that will enhance the function and quality of your interior (or exterior) spaces, leaving you with a home that reflects your personality and suits your lifestyle!  Depending on your design needs, consultations can include any of the following:  space planning, elements of design, choosing a colour scheme, furniture layout, staging, or decor updating.

Not only that but she also offers her expertise as a “professional” shopper, and can help you with your selection of fabrics, artwork, accessories, furniture, lighting, window treatments, or flooring. In her words, “Together we can make your home both, beautiful and functional.  Whether you’re looking to renovate or decorate, I can provide you with a custom design plan to meet your budget!”

Lisa has a wonderful personality and we had a relaxed, fun hour at my studio /residence. This time the studio looked a little different. No backdrops! We worked around my furniture, traveling through rooms of my home using just a soft box for added light or window light. I can hardly wait to give her her images and see her website complete!

The fun side of Lisa for her Facebook page
