Newborn Leah

1786elkNewbornLeah-18The first Day of Spring has arrived ! I find myself so inspired and rejuvenated with the promise of a new season. The warm temps this past week spurred me into action -I found myself ordering some new backdrops and props! I hopped in the car for the 6 hour drive to pick them up this weekend and even the big snowflakes coming down during the drive could not curb my enthusiasm for the anticipated future sessions using the newly purchased goods.

I haven’t found the time to blog over the couple last months-I had the amazing opportunity to teach the Industry Studies Diploma class at the PrairieView School of Photography for 8 weeks,  while also keeping up with client sessions, making for some busy months. Unfortunately I always find the blogging is the first thing that drops off of my to do list! So that being said, I have a lot of catching up to do! I’m starting with the flurry of activity before the Christmas season!

That “flurry” of activity had alot to do with some beautiful little ladies arriving in time for the holidays.  Let’s meet the first! I photographed Jeff and Astrids Wedding just over a year ago now and was so excited to have heard they welcomed their new baby girl into the world. It was so special meeting her and having her in front of my lens!! Here are just a few images captured during our time together! Congratulations go out to the parents!!

D&R Family Fall Session

1765elkDRFamily-29Blog 14 of 14 in a row! Wow-So good to have a project completed! I have to say, it’s been a great review of the last part of the year for me, going back through the images. The blogging will continue into the New Year-I’m thinking now of doing a “Cradle roll” of all the Newborns I’ve had the opportunity to photograph in 2014. Stay tuned! 🙂

I had not seen D&R in a couple of years for a photo session  – the last time we were together I was photographing them and their newly adopted son. So I was thrilled to hear from them again this year with the great news that they had adopted a second son and would like to do a photo session! 🙂 I just loved spending time with the Family at Kings Park- We had a lot of Fun playing in the leaves and enjoying the beautiful colours of the season! I could just sense and see the love among them and the images are evidence of that! Here are just a few of the images captured that day. Enjoy!

K&S Wedding

1755KSWeddingLadiesMorning-47

Congratulations go out to K&S on their Wedding in August! It was a very classy Wedding Day with the Ceremony and Reception at The Gates on Roblin.  A fabulous job by Wedding planner, A Wedding by Maxine , (I especially loved the great activiites and games during the couples reception)! Early morning rain did not dampen spirits and the weather cleared up just in time for the Wedding Formals later that afternoon allowing us to take advantage of the gorgeous outdoor gardens and the river green space. Kristen Sawatzky and Colin Vandenberg were my second shooters for the Day and I must say did an amazing job! I’ve posted a few of my favorite images by them. Enjoy!

New Website!

KWP-20

Looking towards the future!   Photo credit: Katy Winterflood

Happy Anniversary! Going into my 5th year of my dream job-full time photography! I’m looking forward to this year- focused on 2 major goals. I’m happy to announce goal #1 was completed last week!! It’s not easy- but change is good. I’ve know for the last couple of years that my Website needed to be updated…no, needed to be revamped! I began work on my new Website back in November. After finding a new template that would  bring me into 2014 with iPad & iPhone compatibility, I was left with the daunting task of choosing my images from thousands to represent my photography on the site.

Let’s face it-I ‘m terrible at that! I fall in serious like with all my clients and it’s hard to detach emotion or memories from the images. Special thanks go out to my mentor Cory Aronec for going through the images and helping with the selections and flow of the site.  Next came the task of updating my head shot and thanks go out to the talented photographer Katy Winterflood and assistant Jules Joyal who helped capture my personality and create images that would work with the feel of the site. Out in the woods, snow just starting to fall around us-she braved the temps. for a full hour putting me at ease in front of her lens.

After putting the site together I was left wondering what to do about music.  I wanted visitors to the site to get a full understanding of me and my work- I LOVE life, people, colour and photography.

Good thing for Facebook. Just as I was completeing my  site I saw a post by an aquintance  in Alberta who posted a song review by Ryan Seacrest of a friend of his from California . The song was entitled “Color”  by Sara Oliveira. I could not believe how perfect the lyrics were and I sent her a FB message and we started correspondence on working out the details to use her song on the site. She is an amazing talent with a beautiful voice!! Check out her bio and links to social media here: Sara Oliveira.  Thank-you Sara for the wonderful song with its beautiful lyrics that make the site complete.

I hope you enjoy the site- I’d love to have you check it out here!

As for Goal #2 that’s coming up in a couple of weeks! You’ll just have to wait for it! 🙂

Christmas with Steve Bell in September.

web1619-12ekpSteveBell-65

Merry Christmas everyone and best wishes for the coming New Year! I can’t believe how this fall flew by and another year is drawing to an end. I am truly grateful for a year full of wonderful photographic opportunities and for all the amazing individuals I was able to meet and photograph.  Included on this list and a definite highlight was meeting Juno award winner, Mr. Steve Bell and his team for a portrait session of  him in September.

The session portraits were intended for use on promotional materials such as posters for his Christmas tour and the inside of Steve’s new Christmas album. It was a pleasure to work with the creative team to create images of Steve that would compliment a pre-selected album cover based on an original photo by Marco Hiebert.  The session was a really enjoyable couple of hours with much laughter and an amazing atmosphere of creative idea sharing. Special thanks to Cullen Klassen for his technical assistance with the session.

Congratulations to Steve on putting together a beautiful sounding Album for the season and on a full month of sharing his wonderful gift with audiences in concerts across Canada this past month! Please check out Steve’s Website at  Steve Bell if you’re still interested in how to purchase his Christmas Album and information on Steve and his work.

Looking forward to sharing more images of the individuals and projects I’ve worked on this past fall in the coming New Year. Stay tuned!:)

R & J’s Vintage Wedding

May 19th was this couple’s wedding date. You may recall a sneak peek  a while ago. “Vintage” was the theme the bride Ruth gave me. Nothing like showing up the day of the wedding to see the bride getting ready and realize how many details she has put into the day to make that theme realized. I was so impressed with the hand sewn dress my cousin Carolyn made for her daughter, the fabric flower with veil head piece and men’s corsages that include buttons from her Grandma, the seed bead and button necklaces the bridesmaids wore, and the hand made doilies that graced the tables at the reception as well as the vintage broaches on the wedding cake (I should also mention Ruth made the wedding cakel!!). Even her make-up, done by Meig Burgess of Kiss&Makeup by MEIG, had a wonderful vintage feel to it!  The Formal locations were chosen carefully to create the days- gone- by and that even included Ruth bringing along some antique props like suitcases! The picture of the ring on the Bible was unique too as the Bible was Ruth’s great great Grandmother’s! The locations played a wonderful part in photographing to include plenty of grain and a couple of new vintage presets that worked to create some unique old style images. The evening ended up at Rembrandts in Lockport and the sun even came out so we could grab a couple of sunset pics. So much thought put into the details by the couple for their Special day!

Paolo Porquez was my second shooter on this wedding and please find below some of his images that really made my Fav. top 10! Please enjoy the slideshow of our combined images of the day below! Congrats go out to the couple!!!!

Reena Shah

I’d like to introduce you to one fantastically talented lady.  Seem a bit familiar to you T.V. and movie buffs out there? Reena Shah, a  full ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema Television and Radio Artists union for professional actors) member, has been in the acting scene for over 5 Years. She’s appeared in several projects including Don Cherry: Wrath of Grapes, Todd and the Book of Pure Evil, Euphoria, Beethoven’s Christmas Adventure, a Manitoba Nurses Union Commercial, and most recently a web-based video for Manitoba Labour and Immigration.
Reena and I met a few months back when she was interested in having some professional head shots completed for her students of her acting school. I suppose one could say that our “paths continued to cross” over the next couple of month’s- literally!  I was in the Minneapolis airport returning from a Photography Trade Show in Vegas and who do I bump into?  Reena returning from an Acting weekend in L.A. – go figure.
The first thing you notice when you meet Reena is her awesome smile! You tend to quite quickly be won over by her fun nature and soon discover her  passion for acting. While she considers herself an artist first, she says teaching acting has proven to be her true passion. She started her own acting school business called, Expressions Film Studio. I asked her to share a little bit about Expressions.
“I enjoy capturing my student’s talents and I feel a tremendous amount of pride and joy as they begin to discover themselves as artists. Acting is a form of expression and a creative release. At Expressions, students learn confidence, improvisation skills for difficult situations, and how to manage their emotions. It extends far beyond just “performance” and “getting parts”. These are life skills that will empower them throughout their careers, education and relationships. What’s wonderful though, is that the learned skills are masked by the incredible amount of fun we have! We spend our time re-creating scenes from TV shows and movies, participating in improv games, creating our own characters, and producing, writing and acting in our final film project, which by the way, gets shown in a real theatre!”
You have seen some of her students in my past blogs. Reena tells me, “Some are booking parts in movies, commercials and TV shows, some auditioning frequently for casting directors in Winnipeg, and all of them busy laying the foundation of being an actor and learning the basics.” If you are in the Winnipeg area and would like to know more about the acting school or class times you can e-mail expressions.stud@gmail.com .
A couple of weeks ago it was Reena’s turn to get in front of my camera! We had an awesome time creating different looks for her work portfolio, photographing both inside the studio as well as outdoors in the Exchange District. Special thanks to Devon Edie for his assistance with the shoot. (Devon has been shadowing me for a couple of weeks and will be Graduating from High School this year and plans to pursue further studies in photography and Graphics work next year-wishing you a fun year of studies Devon!)

The Forks and Family

I so looked forward to this morning session with Denise and her family at the Forks-My first impression was that I couldn’t believe how much the children had grown! I met Denise a couple of years back when she wanted portraits done of her baby daughter. Her baby girl was just sitting back then and now she was walking, running and talking-WOW- where does time go!  It’s been a couple of months now since the session (Still catching up on blogs from this past fall) and I didn’t want to miss showing some of my favorite images from the session.  It was a coolish, beautifully bright, late Fall morning when we met up at the River Walk. We spent a full hour walking and along the walk, checking out the river and the ducks and playing with the colourful leaves! Thanks Denise for sharing your family with me and my camera and to the family for a very enjoyable session time that morning!

A little Fall and a little Christmas!

I drove my son to school this morning and noticed how so many homes have Christmas trees already displayed in their front windows. It got me to thinking how close the holidays really are! A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing this family. I had photographed the girls a couple of years back when the youngest was still a baby. (Where does time go? ) We had a fun Christmas specific session in the studio and then walked to the park across from my house for pics in the woods and then to the tall grasses just outside the border of the back of my home. Part of the joy of the season is truly the fact that I get to spend a wonderful hour with some pretty wonderful families!  Enjoy just a few images from the session.

Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods and Oil

ABOVE: Celebrity Dietician and Author, Ashley Koff, RD and Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods and Oil CEO, Mike Fata.

In August, I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing the CEO of Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods and Oil, Mike Fata, and celebrity dietician and author, Ashley Koff, RD, at the company’s Winnipeg manufacturing plant. Ashley was in for a visit to the business from California. I was so impressed by the team, the plant itself, and the product- right down to it’s innovative packaging that works to create a heart when two packages are placed together! I think both Ashley and I learned a lot about Hemp seeds that afternoon!
“Founded in 1998, Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods & Oils is the largest vertically integrated hemp food manufacturer in the world. The company strives to manufacture and market the highest quality hemp food products, educate on the nutritional and environmental benefits of hemp, and to support sustainability in all that they do. Manitoba Harvest works with world class health practitioners like celebrity dietician and author, Ashley Koff, RD to introduce people to their leading line up of Hemp Hearts shelled hemp seeds, hemp oil, hemp butter, protein powders, and Hemp Bliss Organic Hemp Beverage.”(Kelly Saunderson, Marketing Manager). Just click on their name, Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods and Oil to check out their website to learn more about this company and the products it has to offer!

Kelly and Eric Married!

A beautiful, warm, sunny, August day for a gorgeous outdoor riverside wedding at Glendale Golf Course! A romantic 3 string performance, to usher a beautiful Bride down the isle. Lush, bountiful planters full of bright coloured flowers,  and  a very heartfelt ceremony. So beautiful! Associate Paolo and I teamed up for this wedding and we so enjoyed completing the family formals under the trees on the last hole of the course and then traveling over to the Assiniboine Park for the wedding party  formals. Kelly’s favorite place was under the arbour of trees lining the roads on the east side of the park. An amazing location for the couple’s formals! Then we were back to Glendale for the reception where guests were ushered into very classy, decorated room complete with cute tuxedo and bridal gown cookie favors on the tables, as well as a towering cupcake display. Below are some of my favorite images captured by Paolo from the day. Enjoy a small slideshow of both of our images combined! Congrats go out to Kelly and Eric , we so enjoyed spending the day with you!

Newborn Brielle

In Dad’s Strong Hands

A couple of weeks back I had the pleasure of photographing Newborn Brielle. This precious baby girl, just home from the hospital, was a natural in front of the camera. I got to know the proud parents, Val and Jeff, last summer when I photographed their wedding. It was so special to share yet a second significant event in this wonderful couple’s life together! We spent a hour together at their home, photographing Brielle. I just find it easier for new parents, if I come to their home for the photo session in the first few weeks after the baby is born. I bring the props and they supply the beautiful subject to photograph! As long as there is a large window with some room for me to work in front of, we are “good to go” for capturing some natural light portraits! Please enjoy some of the images captured of this “Sweetheart!”. Congrats Val and Jeff -she is beautiful! Enjoy just a few of the many images we were able to capture. Special thanks to my assistant Calder!
