Women’s Headshots

2EDFB4x61798elkJenniferF-5 Everyone deserves to have a great headshot/ portrait of themselves! If it’s time to update your current profile pic on a social media site or a business site, consider contacting me this coming year! One of the favourite parts of my job is capturing professional portraits. I’ve had the opportunity to meet and photograph numerous amazing women in many different professions over the past year. They were all looking for a professional portrait  for various reasons. Jennifer (image above) recently took on a new opportunity working in the Winnipeg film industry.  She needed a portrait for her Linked In profile and for other applications as well.

4x6ED1746Andyelk-25I met Andy Dunlop through a friend. She is a very talented/fun Epicure Consultant, her updated images look great on her Website-check it out by clicking here!

She needed a portrait to be featured on the Quaker Oats Centre of Excellence portion of their Website.

Here are just a couple of the 100 images or so! I’m going to get back to work putting together the proofing link-I can’t wait and see what her and her Agent decide on!

Christmas with Steve Bell in September.

web1619-12ekpSteveBell-65

Merry Christmas everyone and best wishes for the coming New Year! I can’t believe how this fall flew by and another year is drawing to an end. I am truly grateful for a year full of wonderful photographic opportunities and for all the amazing individuals I was able to meet and photograph.  Included on this list and a definite highlight was meeting Juno award winner, Mr. Steve Bell and his team for a portrait session of  him in September.

The session portraits were intended for use on promotional materials such as posters for his Christmas tour and the inside of Steve’s new Christmas album. It was a pleasure to work with the creative team to create images of Steve that would compliment a pre-selected album cover based on an original photo by Marco Hiebert.  The session was a really enjoyable couple of hours with much laughter and an amazing atmosphere of creative idea sharing. Special thanks to Cullen Klassen for his technical assistance with the session.

Congratulations to Steve on putting together a beautiful sounding Album for the season and on a full month of sharing his wonderful gift with audiences in concerts across Canada this past month! Please check out Steve’s Website at  Steve Bell if you’re still interested in how to purchase his Christmas Album and information on Steve and his work.

Looking forward to sharing more images of the individuals and projects I’ve worked on this past fall in the coming New Year. Stay tuned!:)

Reena Shah

I’d like to introduce you to one fantastically talented lady.  Seem a bit familiar to you T.V. and movie buffs out there? Reena Shah, a  full ACTRA (Alliance of Canadian Cinema Television and Radio Artists union for professional actors) member, has been in the acting scene for over 5 Years. She’s appeared in several projects including Don Cherry: Wrath of Grapes, Todd and the Book of Pure Evil, Euphoria, Beethoven’s Christmas Adventure, a Manitoba Nurses Union Commercial, and most recently a web-based video for Manitoba Labour and Immigration.
Reena and I met a few months back when she was interested in having some professional head shots completed for her students of her acting school. I suppose one could say that our “paths continued to cross” over the next couple of month’s- literally!  I was in the Minneapolis airport returning from a Photography Trade Show in Vegas and who do I bump into?  Reena returning from an Acting weekend in L.A. – go figure.
The first thing you notice when you meet Reena is her awesome smile! You tend to quite quickly be won over by her fun nature and soon discover her  passion for acting. While she considers herself an artist first, she says teaching acting has proven to be her true passion. She started her own acting school business called, Expressions Film Studio. I asked her to share a little bit about Expressions.
“I enjoy capturing my student’s talents and I feel a tremendous amount of pride and joy as they begin to discover themselves as artists. Acting is a form of expression and a creative release. At Expressions, students learn confidence, improvisation skills for difficult situations, and how to manage their emotions. It extends far beyond just “performance” and “getting parts”. These are life skills that will empower them throughout their careers, education and relationships. What’s wonderful though, is that the learned skills are masked by the incredible amount of fun we have! We spend our time re-creating scenes from TV shows and movies, participating in improv games, creating our own characters, and producing, writing and acting in our final film project, which by the way, gets shown in a real theatre!”
You have seen some of her students in my past blogs. Reena tells me, “Some are booking parts in movies, commercials and TV shows, some auditioning frequently for casting directors in Winnipeg, and all of them busy laying the foundation of being an actor and learning the basics.” If you are in the Winnipeg area and would like to know more about the acting school or class times you can e-mail expressions.stud@gmail.com .
A couple of weeks ago it was Reena’s turn to get in front of my camera! We had an awesome time creating different looks for her work portfolio, photographing both inside the studio as well as outdoors in the Exchange District. Special thanks to Devon Edie for his assistance with the shoot. (Devon has been shadowing me for a couple of weeks and will be Graduating from High School this year and plans to pursue further studies in photography and Graphics work next year-wishing you a fun year of studies Devon!)

The Talented Faye Hall

Saturday morning was a real treat for me! I had the priviledge of photographing artist Faye Hall in her studio! I’ve admired Faye’s painting abilities for a while now. I think we are kindred spirits in more than a couple of ways but foremost-We both LOVE  colour in our  images! She put me so at ease right away with her cutoff painting shorts-her “whitty” T-shirt and she totally surprised me when she picked up her artist palette-a lid from Costco packaging! So down to earth! Faye has been a busy lady preparing for her up coming show on Friday, September 16th at 6:30p.m.. All art lovers are welcome that evening-address of the opening is 657 Bonner.  I’m looking forward to the event which will include Special Guest, Singer/writer/storyteller Steve Bell!  Faye will display a number of paintings completed/inspired from photos taken by Steve during his travels to India and Ethiopia. I spent a fun filled hour with her checking out the gallery-AMAZING- and then photographing her at work in the studio as well as completing some more formal portraits of her . Check out her website at www.fayehall.com to see some of  her beautiful inspired works of art!

Faye at work in her studio on a commissioned piece. She often asks and uses images from her Facebook friends albums as inspiration. Faye has also asked to use some of my photographic images in the past – such an honour to see them turned into painted master pieces!

Evolution Dance Company

Evolution Dance studio owners Andrea and Sonja (above.)

I had the amazing opportunity to meet and photograph the dance instructors of Evolution Dance Company in June. They were looking to have portraits done for their Studio wall as well as their Website. The studio teaches approx. 450 students a week at their wonderful facility in Selkirk, Manitoba.  They have an amazing faculty of 13 instructors who are not only excellent dancers, but genuinely care about each and every one of their students. If you are interested in learning how to dance, their registration begins August 11th and continues every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 – 8:30pm until classes begin.  They offer a variety of classes for ages 3 – adult in Hip Hop, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Creative Movement and Pre-Dance. Their classes include a fun recreational program and a more challenging competitive program as well. I’m always following the accomplishments of this talented group- this past year alone, their teams did very well, winning numerous awards at Canadian and US dance competitions.  Most recently the studio received 3 High Score Awards, and 4 Overalls at the Canadian National Dance Championships!  This year they were also honoured to win an award at the JUMP Convention & Competition in Minneapolis for having the highest combined group scores. Each year their fabulous recital at the Centennial Concert Hall is sure to impress (sold out this past year!) If you are interested in learning more,  information can be found on their website at www.evolutiondance.ca

Helga Berger, Assistant Superintendent

Happy Retirement Helga! Helga, has served as the Assistant Superintendent for the Seine River School Division for a number of years. She approached me when she realized she needed a headshot for a publication announcing her retirement. I was so glad she did! We had a wonderful time together, and I soon realized as we got to know one another, that Helga was a self admitted “Black and White” person. She loves wearing black and white, has black and white glasses and so for the first time EVER on my blog I am posting her portraits in her honor -in Black and White!!! She may be retiring from one job but I have a feeling this lady may have her sights to the future that includes some type of consultation. So not only did we capture a shot for her retirement but we also got a few for possible business cards in the future! Congratulations again Helga, and wishing you all the best in your future!

Simply Chic Interiors featuring Lisa

Lisa Kasdorf of Simply Chic Interiors

So sorry to my blog follower’s it has been a couple of weeks since my last blog. I’ve had many adventure in the last couple of weeks photographing everything from families, children, businesses, an event, kitchen interiors and art work. I promise I’ll get my blogging back up to speed and start sending out a few more blogs in the next couple of weeks and share with you some of the projects I’ve been at work on.  Todays blog was a website photo shoot for Simply Chic Interiors. Owner Lisa Kasdorf is working on creating a new website for her business and asked if I do some head shots for her site as well as for her Facebook business page as well.

Lisa is a 1990 graduate from the University of Manitoba with a B.Ed.degree, and has 19 years of teaching experience. She successfully completed the Home Decorating course at Red River Community College in 2003, becoming a certified home decorator, and a fully accredited member of the Canadian Decorator’s Association (CDECA).  With 8 years of interior decorating experience, she brings to her business a wealth of decor knowledge!

Lisa provides consultations for residential interior decorating, specializing in colour consultations. She will analyze your design needs and formulate design concepts that are both aesthetic and functional.  She works with the client to develop a custom plan that will enhance the function and quality of your interior (or exterior) spaces, leaving you with a home that reflects your personality and suits your lifestyle!  Depending on your design needs, consultations can include any of the following:  space planning, elements of design, choosing a colour scheme, furniture layout, staging, or decor updating.

Not only that but she also offers her expertise as a “professional” shopper, and can help you with your selection of fabrics, artwork, accessories, furniture, lighting, window treatments, or flooring. In her words, “Together we can make your home both, beautiful and functional.  Whether you’re looking to renovate or decorate, I can provide you with a custom design plan to meet your budget!”

Lisa has a wonderful personality and we had a relaxed, fun hour at my studio /residence. This time the studio looked a little different. No backdrops! We worked around my furniture, traveling through rooms of my home using just a soft box for added light or window light. I can hardly wait to give her her images and see her website complete!

The fun side of Lisa for her Facebook page

Meet Joie!

I had the pleasure of photographing Joie this past week. She was looking to have a business headshot updated from a few years ago. She has just recently joined Royal LePage Prime Real Estate team as a licensed agent and assiant to Michael Froese. She brings with her years of experience and a fun loving easy going attitude to the job at hand. A “plus” when working with and for people in Real Estate! We had a fun hour of photographing with various backdrops, lighting and outfits looking to create images that would work for the web and business cards. Good luck to Joie with her new position and  I have no doubt she’ll sell many a home! Give her a call if you are looking to buy or sell your home!

Guy Boudreau, Realtor-Jan. Focus on Business

I had the pleasure of having Guy Boudreau come into the studio this weekend for a photography session. First of my 12 part series on Business feature of the month. Guy has been a Realtor since April of 1984 and has worked  for The Judy Lindsay Realty Team since 2002. When I asked him what the best thing was about his job he didn’t hesitate to say that he loves constantly meeting new people and developing new relationships with clients. Although he is licensed as a commercial realtor, his primary focus is on residential sales in Winnipeg and its bedroom communities.

Guy says he has really enjoyed working for the Judy Lindsay Team as he says the teams primary objective is to provide an exceptional client  experience. I was surprised when he explained the list of handy client services they provide including:

-Handy man services

-Maid service

-Home staging

-Guaranteed sold program.

For more information on the Judy Lindsay Team or Guy -just click on their highlighted name and it will take you to their webpage.

You may also contact Guy Boudreau at judylindsay.com or directly at (204)791-0034.

I had Guy in the studio for a typical Professional headshot but as I questioned him I realized he was looking for something a little different. Something for a web page. a business card, something a little more personal. So we tried a number of different looks. When I “snap” an image I’m always looking towards the future possibilities of that image. I had a little fun with some of the images to prove my point. Below is a vision I had for a business card and below that -Billboards, bus benches, etc, someday Guy??? Thanks so much Guy-You have a great spirit-any client would be lucky to have you as their Realtor! Give him a call if you need to get your home sold!
