R&S Engagement

1916RSEngagement-2The spring season has to be my favourite season, it always holds the promise of future possibilities and new beginnings!  I have to say, we had the most perfect Spring Day for this couple’s engagement session at BirdsHill Park! The sun was shinning, the sky was blue, and the grass just beginning to to show a hint of green. What a beautiful setting to showcase a perfect Spring Day and of course the love between this couple! Associate Paolo and I enjoyed our early evening time with R & S and their dog Kodi, photographing at various locations around the park and finishing up the day with a wonderful sunset offering up some beautiful colourful light. We loved the playful nature between these two and are looking forward to their early Sept. wedding in Gimli, MB. Please enjoy a few of the images captured that evening! Congratulations go out to R &S on their Engagement!

I love Christmas Cards!

IMG_0709I love when Christmas cards come in the mail! I love it even more when it features faces I recognize from images created at a photo session with clients! These cards end up on my photo board just above my computer desk where I can look at them every once in a while and be reminded of a great memory from the session. This led me to decide on this family for day 13 of 14 blogs in a row!  I always enjoy time spent with this family, we had a fabulous session quite late in the year but we lucked out with fabulous weather and still some amazing colour on the trees! Here are just a few of the images we captured during this fun time at the Park! Enjoy!

And I’m back! Sorry, it’s been a while since the last post! This past fall season has been a blur- time just flew and here we are just a couple of weeks before Christmas.  Although the pace was hectic, it was an absolutely wonderful time of the year, filled with the most awesome clients, fun sessions and some cherished memories!  I’ve decided that I will post a blog a day till Christmas and share some of the beautiful locations, wonderful clients and fun times. Let’s begin with this super Family! I have enjoyed working with Desiree over the past few years as a business client, but this year’s  “bonus” was having her share her family with me for this photo session!  We took advantage of this year’s amazing fall weather and had the perfect day for a session at Birds Hill Park. Here are just a few images captured that Day! You can really see the changing leaf colour in the last shot-Enjoy!

Family and Holidays

web1695-13elkChrisFamilyelk0038

Hope your Holidays have been a wonderful time of relaxing and spending time creating memories with family. I’ve had  a wonderful time this past week catching up with friends and entertaining family. I’m shaking my head in amazement-this past season has just flown by!! It just seems like yesterday that we were spending time with family visiting  from Alberta during Thanksgiving in October. I was thrilled to spend a morning with them at Birds Hill Park-I can’t believe how the kids have grown! It was a perfect day- not too cold considering the weather we can get in October! Here are just a few of my favourite memories captured during that morning in the park. Enjoy!

J&A Engagement Session

1694-13elkJAEngagmentelk0013

I thought I had completed my weddings for the year in September and then the week after J&A contacted me. After sitting down and meeting with this couple I was thrilled to be asked to photograph their wedding in late November.  It became apparent to me through our planning that this couple loved colour. Talk about timing for a colourful Engagement session outdoors  when the leaves are at their most brilliant and the woods a bright palette of oranges, reds and golds!  We arranged for an engagement session at Birds Hill Park at the beginning of October and spent a couple of really fun hours at the historic site and in the fields there. Here are just a few of the images captured during our great time together!  Stay tuned for wedding images in late November!

M&D’s Wedding Sneak Peek

IMG_8916MDWedelk

It seems that all my wedding couples this year are making it really difficult to choose which images to show for a sneak Peek!!!! They have all put so much effort and beautiful details into their Special Days that it has become quite difficult to show a small sampling.  M & D’s wedding this past weekend was no exception! The couple chose a beautiful Birds Hill location for their first meet and some Wedding Formals.  Then it was off to the breathtaking Leo Mol Sculptural Garden for their Wedding Ceremony and finally over to the Qualico Family Centre for the “fishing” themed reception. I’ll definitely look forward to blogging more of their wedding in the near future including details on the florist, make-up artists, hair stylists and Wedding Planners. Stay tuned!!! Congrats go out to M&D-Paolo and I so enjoyed spending your Wedding Day with you!

Christmas with Steve Bell in September.

web1619-12ekpSteveBell-65

Merry Christmas everyone and best wishes for the coming New Year! I can’t believe how this fall flew by and another year is drawing to an end. I am truly grateful for a year full of wonderful photographic opportunities and for all the amazing individuals I was able to meet and photograph.  Included on this list and a definite highlight was meeting Juno award winner, Mr. Steve Bell and his team for a portrait session of  him in September.

The session portraits were intended for use on promotional materials such as posters for his Christmas tour and the inside of Steve’s new Christmas album. It was a pleasure to work with the creative team to create images of Steve that would compliment a pre-selected album cover based on an original photo by Marco Hiebert.  The session was a really enjoyable couple of hours with much laughter and an amazing atmosphere of creative idea sharing. Special thanks to Cullen Klassen for his technical assistance with the session.

Congratulations to Steve on putting together a beautiful sounding Album for the season and on a full month of sharing his wonderful gift with audiences in concerts across Canada this past month! Please check out Steve’s Website at  Steve Bell if you’re still interested in how to purchase his Christmas Album and information on Steve and his work.

Looking forward to sharing more images of the individuals and projects I’ve worked on this past fall in the coming New Year. Stay tuned!:)

R&J June Wedding

June 1st -Ronee and Jerry’s wedding day! I’m always amazed by how fast wedding days fly by especially when you’re with warm, inviting and fun wedding parties and families!! Paolo and I had a great time photographing this wedding couple. The day turned out to be perfect for outdoor wedding pictures! The previous days rains had made the grass so green, the cloud formations created interest in the blue skies and only near the end of the Formals did we hear the faint rumblings of thunder.

This couple had a later ceremony time on a Friday, which meant that the Formal photography was first. For me, as a photographer, I especially enjoy when a couple asks for a “first meet” by themselves at a designated location before the Formals. It’s so much fun, so intimate and romantic.  We did this at Birds Hill Park and about 15 min. later were joined by the rest of the wedding party and then the families for their formal session. Then is was off to the ceremony at N.K.M.B. church and over to Niverville Heritage Centre for the reception. Flowers were done by Tatiana Penner.(click on the name and check out the website!). Please enjoy just a few of the images captured by Paolo and myself that day!

Steven and Viveca Married!

Finally! I have been trying to find time in a busy pre- Christmas shooting/editing schedule to blog about this couple’s amazing wedding! Steven and Viveca were married in October. Some of you may recall their Sneak Peek from last month. I loved this wedding because both the bride and the groom had distinctly different tastes in wedding photography. Prior to the wedding day, I asked the couple to pick images of wedding photography that they liked and tell me what they liked about the image. I found out that Steven loved to play with depth of field and Viveca loved more of a contemporary feel to her images with a slight romantic flare. With each image I shot on the day of the wedding and each image I edited afterwards I found myself saying, this one’s for Steven, this one’s for Viveca. I so enjoyed shooting from different points of view with my camera and using a variety of editing techniques!!!

I was fortunate to work with the awesome photography team of Jonah O’Neil and Paolo Porquez during the wedding day. You can check out a few of Jonah’s amazing arial shots of the Ceremony from the catwalk at the N.K.M.B. Church and some of Paolo’s images from Bird’s Hill Park and the reception at the Aviation Museum in the slideshow below. Special thanks to the wedding party and the couple for making the day a lot of fun! Congratulations Viveca and Steven, it was an honor to spend your Special Day with you!

Fall Fun

And the Fall Fun just continues! Snow has just blanketed Winnipeg and I’m still working on finishing up Family Session files from October. We had such a beautiful fall with warm weather and amazing fall colours! What a backdrop to work with photographing families outdoors especially in the Parks!

I so enjoyed this Family session with Krista and her family at Birds Hill Park! I had a really hard time just selecting a few images to show!  Krista and I share a love for antiques and using them in eclectic ways. I was thrilled when she brought fun props like an antique frame, balloons, and fancy sucker’s! I threw in my black antique wood chair and had a little fun with the editing selection into the mix and “Voila” we had a unique look to the family’s images!  Thanks to the family for being such great sports and making the session so much fun! Enjoy!

A portrait should be about personality!

The above picture makes me laughing every time I look at it! I had a super fun session with this adorable little girl and her sister a couple of weeks back. I asked her if there was anything she would like me to take a picture of (something she had brought along to the photo session.) She ran to get her skipping rope. I positioned her carefully in the light told her to wait for a second while a quickly changed my camera settings to capture the anticipated action of skipping.  I said ” Okay, good to go”, gave her the thumbs up signal, at which she looked at me and promptly stuck the ends of the skipping rope into her eyes!

It took me a second to comprehend that in fact I wasn’t getting the skipping image I was expecting. Mom and Grandma were laughing behind me, and then I realized this is her personality, this was her ! A portrait should be about one’s personality! It’s about capturing a child at a stage of learning, capturing the cute actions they do or habits they have, capturing them at a specific moment at a time in their lives! So I smiled, okay -I laughed,  and took the shot! Please enjoy some of the other images captured at the session! Thanks Grandma and Mom for sharing your wonderful Children/Grandchildren with me for that hour!

Harvest Family Session

Pumpkins, Fall Leaves, a Farm setting, a beautiful family with 2 adorable children. What a wonderful afternoon session! Some of you may recognize this family from my website-I had the fortune of photographing their daughter every month for the first year of her life. I have not seen them in a while and I couldn’t believe how much the children have grown, and surprise-mom is expecting a new addition to the family! I asked photographer Tara Craigon to assist me with the session. It’s so much fun to work with another professional photographer and a bonus to the family who gets images from different angles to choose from. She did a marvelous job and directly below are a couple of my favorite pictures by her. Please enjoy the slideshow below of our combined  images. Not only was it great seeing the family again but we got a wonderful surprise from them of home made apple pie and cinnamon buns -A perfect finish to a Harvest session! Thank-you Family!

Viveca and Steven’s Sneak Peek

Fall Leaves, blue sky, open fields, and a reception amid vintage airplanes-WOW what an amazing Fall wedding! Viveca and Steven said their “I do’s ” on October 1st and associate Paolo Porquez and I were there to capture their special moments. They had a very romantic first meeting with each other at Birds Hill Park and were later joined by the Wedding Party to complete the Wedding formals. It was then off to the Church and later the Aviation Museum for the reception. An incredible amount of unique photo opportunities through out the day! Here are just a couple of images-a lot more are still in the works for the blog at a later date!

Click on the sign me up button!

Happy New Year! I love January- it is such a great time to evaluate past goals, set some new ones, and most importantly reflect and count the blessings from the previous year. I am especially thankful to all of you who have supported me in my photography endeavors over the past year. I am always intrigued when some of you, whom I maybe haven’t seen for a while , say “I’ve been following your blog!” As well, I am equally amazed when I have people I’ve never met before subscribe to the blog! I’m always terrified to click on a button on the web, whether it’s Facebook links or personal websites. Top of mind is, is it a virus, are they going to forever bug me if I give them my e-mail address? On that Note: Did you know if you look under the e-mail subscription to the right and click on the, sign me up, button, you’ll be notified when I post a new blog? P.S.-It’s FREE and NO ONE will pester you for anything else! It is just a simpler way of following along on my photography and what may present itself  for me this coming year. I promise to keep up blogging and posting my business sessions, contests, and share with you some of my own personal photography exploits, recipes, and around the city events!

I switched to Word Press as my blogging venue at the end of Sept. for it’s larger Photo layout. I was so surprised at the end of December when the Word Press team sent me an update on the blog. (Never experienced that before!) I thought I’d share just a quick update about what they had to say, because it really is about you and those of you who spend time on the blog. Here it goes:

1. The site is doing AWESOME!

2. A Boeing 747-400 passenger jet can hold 416 passengers. This blog was viewed about 1,300 times in 3 months in 2010. That’s about 3 full 747s viewing in a couple of months. WOW-Just image what this year could hold considering it could be a full 12 months!!!

3..Congratulations to Aymee and Stephen (Aymee and Stephen’s Wedding),who won the title of  The most popular post of the day.

I so look forward sharing with you this year. December was a busy month and  I didn’t have much time to share about what I was up to. I seemed to have had an animal filled December which is perfect since I’m such an animal lover. Above is a picture of Ransom who was enjoying a bath at The Pawsh Dog. I worked 3 Sundays in December there, with Katherina from A pawsitive Image , photographing holiday pet photos. Below is a picture of Mister. Mister is one of two cats owned by friend Lori. The cats were inhabitants of a work yard and probably would not have made it the winter outdoors. Adopted by my friend they now are living a very purrrrfectlly good life. I shot this one during a visit relaxing in front of the fireplace.

Amanda and Dave Engagement Sneak peek!

This past Saturday, I spent a beautiful sunny morning with associate Paolo at Birds Hill Park at an engagement session, photographing this amazing couple, Amanda and Dave.  This engagement session held a little bit more of a special meaning to me, as Amanda, way back when, was my flower girl at my wedding. Yes, she has definitely has grown up and found herself a great guy!  The couple found a great location that offered various romantic “backdrops” perfect for the Engagement session!  The textures of wood, trees, shingles and equipment found on the location, has also been perfect for finishing the images with various editing techniques. I’m about 2/3 rds of the way through editing but I so happy with the results I just had to share a sneak peek of the images! Dave and Amanda, It was so great spending time getting to know you better!  Paolo and I are so looking forward to spending your wedding day with you in May! Happy planning, oh and by the way, I hope to have your proofing link up for you soon!
